47 weeks

Nathan is having a pretty good week considering he is still fighting off that stubborn cold and cutting teeth all at the same time.  He's not running a fever just has a runny nose and a lingering cough all of which the doc says are good signs that he's on the mend.

We had a good time trying to take lots of pictures this week.  He's discovered that his climbing skills extend to his rocking chair and he was being so silly when I was taking these pics.  He'd stand up and look around the back of the chair and spin around and grin at me.  I'd remind him to sit, and he'd get back up again, simply trying to scale the back of the chair.  After the second reminder to sit down, we went to a new activity, but I couldn't resist capturing a few of these moments.
did I do something wrong?
who me?
come and get me!

Nathan has been doing lots of talking and pointing this week.  He can point out mama, dada, and Bailey in his picture book and when asked who grandpa was, he pointed to my dad.  When he sees a lion in a book, he "roars", and sometimes when he sees a monkey he says "oo oo" and sometimes when he sees an owl he says "ooooh ooooh".  Wednesday he learned what a balloon was as I tied one to our cart in Harris Teeter.  He was fascinated by it and by aisle 3 had learned to say balloon.  It sounds more like bah-oooon, but precious nonetheless.  And he says it with such gusto that he got lots of attention from people who could hear him excitedly say it!  I was thrilled he'd learned a new word (and that it was 2 syllables) and that he was so excited about it.  He said bah-ooon all the way home and again when he woke up from his nap to find the balloon right near his dresser.

He's eating some new things too.  He tried a whole chicken nugget, and after inspecting it carefully, he devoured it.  He also tried a bit of 2% milk (about an ounce) in one of his sippy cups and didn't seem to mind the taste. He wants what we have which is great, unless I'm drinking a diet coke and eating a few ruffles!  He also tried a smoothie this week, which he loved, and can suck it out of a straw held above him.  We're still working on sucking it up a straw, instead of down a straw.

His kisses are absolutely precious and he means it!  He makes the sweetest noise and plants a big smaker on your cheek!

He's also holding his hand up to say "hi" to people.

We're seeing more cruising while he's only holding on with one hand as he's learned to balance a little better.  He's also getting a bit more brave and is letting go much more often while he stands.  Unlike everything else he does, he seems to be cautious about walking, so perhaps he'll take his sweet time learning this skill, but who knows!

He also has 4 teeth now!  He got his two top eye teeth this week and that has been no fun.  Can you see the right one in this picture?  It had just barely broken the surface of his gums.

My next "weekly" update on Nathan will be the 11 month post.  I can't believe it!  Until then, I promise to post pictures from the pumpkin patch!

What a cutie! Great update Mama. I love those animal noises. My little one thinks that almost everything roars, including him! Love that last picture.
