Nathan LOVES animals… of all kinds, shapes, colors, species… you name it, he loves it. So far, his 3 exceptions are snakes, ants, and bees. Probably because I’ve put the fear of God in him regarding holding them. We often go on critter hunt walks and if it’s not a bee, snake, or spider, Nathan always asks to pick it up. Grasshopper, frog, worm, cricket, butterfly, slug, rolly polly, beetle, bird (“sure you can pick it up if you can catch it”)… they all end up delicately placed in his hand. He talks to them, intently watches and studies them and then places them back down to go bee with their bug families. We’ve recently taken a liking to flashlight walks in the neighborhood at night. We’re guaranteed 3-5 big frogs (all of which Nathan picks up, talks to, and carries) and lots of big spiders. We just shine the flashlight on those and put the big frogs near them! It’s like a crab hunt on the beach for city slickers!
Nathan I’m so glad that you love animals, that you aren’t afraid, and that you study them so closely. Thank you for treating them so gently! I look forward to so many more critter adventures with you!!!!
