20 weeks old - quickly approaching 5 months

Nathan is such a fun baby - he's so smiley! That's his dad's nickname, and I think we're going to have a "smiley jr." too. In the mornings when he wakes up, he lays in his crib and talks. He kicks his feet and makes the craziest noises until we come in to feed him. Rarely does he cry when he wakes up (unless the blankie is so snug around his head that he can't figure out how to get it off of his eyes). Here are some smiley faces



Nathan makes new noises every day. His newest is buh-ooo. Too cute. Lately he's been a little bit high maintenance and has made this noise when he's tired and sort of fussing. It's crazy because his window between happy and tired is shrinking by the day - we're still trying to learn the signs to get him to bed before he melts down. Thankfully the meltdowns (if you can call them that) only last about 3-5 minutes, if at all. :)

Our little chunk! A lady stopped me in Target a few days ago and said, "wow - how big is he?" I didn't answer because I didn't know exactly what she meant, I mean, couldn't she see how big he was? She quickly changed her question (still with the same surprised and appalled tone in her voice) to "how old is he?" When I answered, "4 and a half months", no lie, she blurted out "HOLY CHRISTMAS" and walked away to join her daughter who was pushing a baby in the cart who was probably close to a year old and was so petite and tiny. Then, after some whispering, they both looked back my way in shock. Folks, Nathan is a big boy, but he's not huge! He only weighs 16 pounds and he's only in the 50th percentile for both height and weight. I guess people quickly forget how babies go through a chunky stage between 4-6 months - before they really start crawling, but are eating their parents out of house and home! My mom showed me some pictures of me at Nathan's age and my double chin put his to shame! Funny. Well, the Lord has answered all of our prayers that Nathan would be strong and healthy - who would guess now that he was a preemie? :)
