33 weeks old

33 weeks - I can hardly believe that he's 7.5 months old. We went to the doctor for a check up this week and Nathan is 21 pounds 2 ounces (75th percentile) and is a wiggly 26.5 inches long (25th percentile) - he's probably taller, but he's so wiggly it's hard to stretch him out! His doc said he's very healthy and his weight is great. He's happy to see such a healthy baby!

For those of you who remember the quiet, still, laid back, tiny little thing - life is different these days. Nathan loves to yell (or vocalize as it's technically called), squirm, reach, pull, grab, squeal, gasp, and he's into everything. If it's in his reach, he's got it, or knocked it, or spilled it, or tasted it. Look out world, here comes Nathan.

His rolling skills really improved while we were on vacation, but in the last few days, we're seeing much more progress toward crawling. He's consistently getting up on his hands and knees! Although usually his hands are on top of one another, and he doesn't know what to do once up on all fours, in a short time, he will. At that point, we'll say goodbye to the last little bit of "perceived safety" of items on the floor, and we'll also say good bye to those chunky thighs! As active as this little guy is, he'll be crawling faster than I can walk, so maybe we'll both say goodbye to chunky thighs! Here are some pics and some video of this newly acquired ability!

We're still working on finger foods. He can grab them just fine, but getting them into his mouth is a much different story. So for now, we let him practice and we still feed him these little pieces of goodness. We're working on some signs (more, Bailey, all done, and milk). The one we practice most is "more" while he's eating these delicious finger foods. He's not signing at all yet, still a little early, but he's watching and hopefully taking it all in. The other day, while we were eating ever so slowly, I was signing and saying more each time he had finished a bite. Then, out of no where comes "mmm oooor". He did it 3 or 4 times. Was that his first word? "More" - too funny that my child's first word might have been more (then again, Kendra has been talking to him about the fact that he must love food since he was just days old). He's not done it since, so we're not ready to call it his first word, but we'll keep you posted on how it's going! Here's some video of him trying to feed himself and then, we think, telling us he's done (shaking his head).
Also this week, I've noticed that Nathan is reaching for me (and maybe Chad, although I've not paid attention) when I go to pick him up off the floor, changing table, and out of his crib. SOOOOOO sweet! I love it! The video below shows this at the very end. We think it's so funny how for the longest time, Nathan has been trying to sit up while laying flat on his back on the floor. Well the kid is determined and with just a little pressure on one or two of his feet, he can now do a complete sit up (with or without the help of his arms) with us simply holding down his his little feet. Crazy strong abs! Check it out!

Since he's so mobile and into everything, we've started letting him play independently in the pack and play. He's safe and contained, and I can pee in peace, do a little laundry, or eat lunch! It's lovely! He seems to like it, unless he rolls backwards and can't sit back up.

Nathan is teething STILL. Poor baby, you can tell that his mouth just aches and anything he gets his hands on goes into that mouth.

He's doing much better with sitting up and not falling over. 90% of the time he can catch himself when he starts to go too far to one side or the other. He rolls backwards often, but it's not because he doesn't have the ab strength to stay upright, he's just so busy and doesn't pay attention. He usually rolls back with quite a bit of grace, but just in case, we still put pillows where his head would land or sit him up in the corner made by the soft couches! He loves to play sitting up and is content to play by himself for quite some time as long as he can reach his toys.

Too funny - he looks like he really wants to just bite it off and eat it!

Hanging out on the floor playing

Wheels - doesn't every little boy love wheels?

He and Bailey are still the best of friends and it's precious to watch. He loves to lay on the floor with Bailey and she patiently endures the uncoordinated movements of the little guy. It's so cute to see her come and lay by him.

Speaking of Bailey - here's what she thinks about apartment life

Nathan has discovered some new things in this apartment... for example, the light switches! Yes, they are right next to his dresser/changing table and no, there was no other place for the dressser in the little tiny room... and yes, he now knows how to turn on and off the light. Oh well, he was bound to learn it sometime, it just came sooner than we thought.

Doesn't he look proud of himself?

New diapering challenges have arisen as his rolling skills have improved...

Here are some precious pics of the little man this morning!

See my neck? I really do have one!
