Easter weekend was filled with fabulous adventures with our close friends! Thursday we went to an amazing service at our church and were reminded that there is room at Christ's table for all of us, each and every one. What a powerful thing to remember! On Friday, we had breakfast with some old friends and then we had our fabulous playdate, and I was reminded once again of the blessing of great friends, and sunny Carolina skies! Saturday was another excellent day! We headed to one of the local parks for what we thought was an Easter egg hunt and free rides on the carousel and train... The free part was the only correct part of those assumptions. As you can see in the photo below, LOTS of people also had this great idea. The park was swarming with people. The line for the train was a good 30 minutes long. People, I will pay $1 to ride the train another day! That consensus was shared by all mommies and daddies involved! Instead we all enjoyed a funnel cake, yes, kiddos too. And no festivity is complete without a group photo!
Nathan and Mommy
Now, it was time for the egg hunt and Chad and I's conversation went something like this...
C: Does Nathan need a basket or something?
K: Oh crap
C: We don't have a basket for him?
K: Nope, I'm sure we have something in the trunk though...
As you can see, Nathan used a poopie diaper bag (not a poopie one, just one for poopie diapers) to collect his loot. He was a bit shocked! Okay, not really, but it looks like he's saying, "Mom, are you serious, you didn't even bring me a basket and I have to put my eggs in this?" He didn't mind one bit in reality! :) Thank you for extending us that grace Nathan!
The kiddos had to wait and wait and wait for the "hunt" to start.
"THAT is the Easter bunny?"
Dude? Where are the eggs?
Family photo (Thanks Izzy for letting Nathan hold your basket!) So by this point, we're wondering where in the world you "hide" eggs on a gym floor. Well apparently the grass was too wet outside so they moved it inside. And we must have missed the memo that said this was a "candy" hunt, not to be confused with an "egg hunt". Here's what resulted.
Yep, not kidding. They had about 10 50 gallon trash cans full of candy and they just threw it all over the gym floor. There were maybe 100 eggs in that sea of candy... and well over 100 kiddos under 3 (plus a parent each) waiting to dive in to the candy mosh pit.
When they blew the whistle, we cautiously moved a few feet in and let the kiddos do their thing. Nathan saw the eggs and immediately picked one up...
brought it to me...
and after trying with all his might to break it apart, he declared "mama open". He knew this drill from Tot School - there was bound to be something in that egg!
Then he saw a little girl's basket full of eggs... and he decided she should share. Oops. This is me apologizing to her mom!
That was the craziest candy "hunt" ever. Nathan got a couple of eggs and I got a few handfuls of candy. It was a good experience for him, although next year, we'll go to the retirement center for a real egg hunt!
Nathan was not at all sure about this Easter bunny. In fact he didn't want to look at him at all!
He was much happier back in the park playing in the mulch and trying to climb trees.
You have to wonder what he and Zachary were doing that made him laugh so much!
Apparently Zachary had to take a closer look!
Time for organized photos...sweet baby girl Izzy!
Buddies for life!
We were trying to get a picture of all three kiddos looking at the camera, but that is quite a task! It was so much easier when they weren't mobile!
Finally, after many attempts, Bethany gave them all an Easter egg and that worked beautifully!
The park was a blast, as was our boat ride later that evening with Brian, Kristin, and Zachary.
Easter morning was so sweet! Chad and I got up early and got dressed for church. At 830am, Nathan was still sawing logs, so I woke him up to see what the Easter bunny (daddy) brought him as it was a surprise to me too. Chad walked him down and into the living room.
I found a basket (really a tray for our ottoman - perfect practical man) full of chocolate and starburst. Does this man know me or what?
Then there was Nathan's basket! Absolutely perfect!!! It was a truck basket with matchbox trucks and boats in it, a few basketballs, a milk flavored duck, and of course edible grass. Also, Chad got us something for Tot School... Connect Four. :) My favorite thing about Chad's basket for Nathan was that everything in it was something he loves and can say. So sweet of him to put so much thought into both baskets. Thank you baby!
Nathan LOVED his basket and all of the trucks and boats and balls!
One of the funniest parts, however irreverent, was listening to Nathan name his "loot". Unfortnuately, when he says "truck" it doesn't start with "tr", rather "f". We've heard a lot of "fu%^" coming out of his mouth in the last few days and since that word is NEVER said in our home, it seems a bit misplaced, yet a bit humerous coming out of a mouth so young. We're working on "tr" but as my friend Kristin says, those consonant blends don't often appear till age 3. Sounds like we've got 2 more years of a potty mouth! Listen for yourselves.
Once Nathan was all dressed it was time for pictures. You can't really see it, but he has a tie on under that sweater vest! It was so sweet on him! These are my two good looking guys!

Happy Easter everyone! We hope yours was an excellent time to remember the One who loves you and has room enough at His table for YOU!

that's HILARIOUS...the truck thing! if you do want to change the f 'issue' and he can't do the tr blend then could could always concentrate on getting the initial 't' out so it would be tuck instead. just a thought:)love all the pics...what kind of camera do you have??
